Nicki Minaj Pledges $25K To Former ‘Cosby’ Star After Public Shaming
The actor Geoffrey Owens who played Elvin Tibideaux on ‘The Cosby Show’ was recently photographed working at a Trader Joe’s bagging groceries, and Nicki Minaj came to his defense.
Nicki was quoted by XXL saying “They took a picture of Geoffrey Owens and put this m***af***in’ man on them***af***in’ internet while he was fuckin’ baggin’ up some fuckin ‘groceries to feed his m ***af***in’ family… I personally want to donate on behalf of Queen Radio $25,000 to Geoffrey Owens today. You know why? Let me tell you something. This man is a whole f***in’ legend in these streets.”
Owens has recently gotten a slew of offers and calls from former co-stars, but he says he’d still go back to Trader Joe’s if needed. He’s quoted by The Hollywood Reporter saying “Yes. They said, ‘Don’t consider it leaving, consider it an indeterminate leave of absence.’ So they wanted to hold my place open in case I ever wanted to come back, which I thought was really cool.”
When interviewed by CNN, Owens made sure to note the dignity of actually doing your job. “What I hope continues to resonate is the idea that one job is not better than another. A certain job might pay more, it might have better benefits, it might look better on paper, but that essentially one kind of work isn’t better than another kind of work, that we reevaluate that whole idea and we start honoring the dignity of work and the dignity of the working person.”
