Jay-Z Scores Legal Victory in Trademark Dispute Case
In case you missed it, Jay-Z and Roc Nation are being sued by Iconix Brand for the Roc Nation logo being used on MLB merchandise. The $204 million lawsuit was halted on Wednesday when a judge agreed to a restraining order. The case will resume on December 11th, this will give Jay-Z and his counsel more time to research the arbitrators for the case, Jay-Z argued in order for the arbitration to be fair there should be an African-American arbitrator on his behalf to hear the case.
There are three arbitrators of color, however, one of the arbitrators works with Iconix and would be a conflict of interest. Iconix and Jay-Z each get to pick four arbitrators from the AAA database and the association supplies four more, the two sides eliminate names until one arbitrator is agreed on.
