John had a modest upbringing, as his dad worked in factory. He said he can't imagine what it's like to be his kids but he is determined not to spoil them.
He admits it is weird raising kids who have an opposite experience than him and want nothing. He did say it is very easy for him and his wife Chrissy to give gifts to friends. They simply get a gift basket with Chrissy's cookbook and his Christmas album.
