Last week, news broke that film director John Singleton suffered a stroke, and now, he’s in a coma.
The stroke that Singleton had is much more serious than his family initially revealed, according to TMZ. Singleton’s family is currently in the process of establishing a conservatorship for the filmmaker.
Singleton suffered the stroke last week after returning from a trip to Costa Rica. He began experiencing trouble with his legs and then checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The stroke occurred while Singleton was in the Cedars-Sinai. Last week, Singleton was ICU, but his family characterized the stroke as mild.
The filmmaker’s mother, Sheila Ward, is seeking to be appointed his temporary conservator because he is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter,” according to legal documents that were obtained by TMZ.
According to Singleton’s mother, the director was engaged in several business projects at the time that he had the stroke and was about to sign a lucrative settlement agreement. Ward wants to wrap up those affairs.
Singleton, 51, didn’t have any medical directives, hence the need for a conservatorship.
