Fox’s ‘Empire’ To End After Its Sixth Season
There’s sad news for fans of Fox‘s Empire.
The television drama that introduced the world to the Lyon empire will be canceled after its sixth season, reports Deadline.
Fox’s cancellation of its other musical drama, Star, was a “tough choice” for the TV network, but the decision was made so that Fox could give Empire the “send-off it deserves.”
Charlie Collier, Fox Entertainment’s CEO told Deadline that Star was canceled because Fox wanted to focus on Empire as it moves into its sixth and final season.
“We looked at our priorities and were trying to prioritize giving Empire the send-off it deserves. The move [of Empire] to 9 pm, made it a challenge because Star was always the lead-out from Empire and obviously we don’t have the 10 pm hour, so it was another tough choice in a year where we were prioritizing Empire and obviously some of the other shows that we’ve put on the schedule,” Collier said.
During Empire‘s first three seasons the show aired on Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and then moved to 8 p.m. to accommodate Star in the 9 p.m. slot.
Empire will now air on Tuesdays after The Resident for its final season.
After only three seasons Star was canceled, but Fox is currently seeking to have the show starring Queen Latifah and Brandy picked up by other platforms.
