Chicago has its very own alligator named Chance The Snapper, named after Chicago rapper Chance The Rapper, and it lives in Humboldt Park Lagoon.
The alligator has swiftly become one of the Windy City’s most notable celebrities, simply by doing nothing more than being an alligator in the midwestern city, according to AV Club.
A man from the Chicago Herpetological Society who the Chicago Sun-Times calls “local wrangler ‘Alligator Bob'” has been surveilling the lagoon and leaving delicious traps filled with rats, chicken, and fish for Chance The Snapper.
He even has a “flying drone” set up in an attempt to capture footage of the alligator.
Chicago’s reptile celebrity has even caught the attention of Chance The Rapper. On Wednesday (July 10), the “No Problems” rapper tweeted, “Just landed and found out I gotta alligator.”
Chance The Rapper’s newfound friend has piqued the city’s curiosity, drawing huge audiences to the park and even inspiring a Twitter account to be created called @ChanceDeSnapper.
The account curates the latest gator tales in character between discussions of threats to eat people and lagoon trash.
The reptile celebrity is believed to have been a former illegal pet abandoned by its owner, and will most likely be rescued and given a new home.
