Wendy Williams To Executive Produce Her Biopic For Lifetime
Wendy Williams’ story is coming to television.
The television host and former radio personality will be executive producing her own biopic for Lifetime, who has also produced biopics for celebrities such as Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, and Aaliyah, reports BET.
Williams will be collaborating with Will Packer on the project, who is behind the hit movie Girls Trip starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.
Leigh Davenport, who writes for BET’s Boomerang will be writing the script for the biopic. The movie will explore Williams’ “scrappy upstart days in urban radio to the success of her own syndicated talk show,” per the press release.
The film will also have a coinciding documentary, which Williams announced to her audience during Wednesday morning’s episode of her morning talk show.
“I’m such a Lifetime groupie,” she said. “There’s also a documentary about my life. So, the movie will be two hours and then the documentary is going to be two hours… It’s like a Wendy night on Lifetime. The documentary is gathering people in my life — not just my mom and dad and siblings and stuff, but old bosses or friends and people in the business, to talk about me behind my back.”
Williams added that they have just started casting for the biopic and that production commences this fall. The talk show host said that she wants “an unknown” actress to portray her because she doesn’t want any recognizable faces “to distract from the story.” Williams’ biopic is scheduled to air at the top of 2020 via Lifetime.
