Lil Nas X — who was a mostly unknown artist a year ago — is on the cover of the current issue of Time magazine.
The “Old Town Road” singer is killing the game right now. His hit song has been N0. 1 on the Billboard 100 Charts for 19 weeks, making it the longest-running No. 1 of all time. Now the 20-year-old discussed that, among other things, with Time magazine.
“Everything lined up for this moment to take me to this place. Not to sound self-centered, but it feels like I’m chosen, in a way, to do this stuff,” Lil Nas X says.
Lil Nas X’s rise to fame was fast, and he talks about how he is still adjusting to it. “It gets overwhelming. I just shut down on everybody – I’m still a loner in a lot of ways.”
In the article, he also goes into detail about recently coming out. “I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe. In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands – little stuff like that.”
Even though Lil Nax X is riding this wave of “Old Town Road” success, he knows that there is a lot more to do in his career. He explains, “Seeing digital numbers, it’s a good feeling. It goes quickly though.” He adds, “You have to keep going.”
