New Yorkers will soon have access to the ultimate Missy Eliott fan experience.
On Monday, August 26, Missy Elliott will be receiving the Michael Jackson MTV Video Vanguard Award during the network’s annual VMA ceremony.
To coincide with the coveted honor, MTV has announced the unveiling of a pop-up museum that honors the Grammy Award-winning rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, reports Essence magazine.
The network, in partnership with Pepsi, is presenting an interactive social media experience that highlights the career of Missy Elliott.
The museum titled Museum of Missy Elliott also puts the spotlight on the various creative visionaries who are behind some of Elliott’s most iconic music videos.
The experience, will take place at 632 Broadway in New York City and will be open to the public for two days: Saturday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time and Sunday, Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. All tickets have sold out.
“I’m so thrilled that MTV, in collaboration with Pepsi, has decided to showcase the amazing work of my dear friend Missy Elliott,” designer June Ambrose said in a statement.
“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to have been fortunate enough to costume design for Missy for so many years, a true labor of love. I wish to congratulate Missy, Hype Williams, HitHat and all the many creatives whose amazing work will be on display at the Museum of Missy Elliott.”
Ambrose, alongside choreographer HitHat, and directors Hype Williams and Dave Meyers, among others, who have been masterminds behind some of the rapper’s most iconic music videos will have installations that were inspired by them inside of the one-of-a-kind pop-up museum.
The Supa Dupa Fly Lounge will be a part of the experience, which is a nail bar that includes a myriad of original photo activations that will highlight Elliott’s most legendary music videos such as “The Rain,” “Gossip Folks,” and “Lose Control,” among others.
