On Thursday, Grammy Award-winning rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Missy Elliott took to Instagram to share behind the scenes footage from the photoshoot for the cover of her latest EP, Iconology, where her hair literally spells out her name “Missy.”

In the caption of the post, Elliott shouted out her photographer Derek Blanks who shot the creative cover along with her glam squad.

“Big up my photographer @mrdblanks who always come through for me & his work dope he gets me!!! Couldn’t see my grills so I made that face for nothing lol big up my glam squad @kellonderyck who had me wearing & holding this heavy hairpiece on my head for [an] hour,” Elliott wrote in her caption.

“it look fye tho @themuaalexwho keep my face beat like she jumped my face and my style @juneambrose @rogeramckenzie for snapping with my clothes keeping me saucy. lastly @beedy_the_black_nail_tech repping #7thWard New Orleans have my nails right!!!! #ThrowItBack video and song #ICONOLOGY OUT NOW!!STREAM.”

Some fans assumed that Elliott’s hair was photoshopped, but according to the artist — who just received the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards’ Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Award — it wasn’t. In Elliott’s post, she referred to having to have the “heavy hairpiece” held for an hour.
