Artists have been singing about the rain for a very long time. The rain has been used as a metaphor for life’s most somber and melancholy moments as well as sensual ones. Like the rain, these songs can be relaxing and soothing. They can also possibly make you dance. From SWV to New Edition, below are 9 songs that reference the rain.

1. Immature “I Can’t Stop The Rain” 

On their 1995 album, We Got It, Immature sang about a love interest’ s uncontrollable emotions on their song “I Can’t Stop The Rain.”

In 1998, New Edition released their hit single “Can You Stand The Rain,” which comes from their album Heart Break. The classic single was also included on the soundtrack for the 2013 film The Best Man Holiday.

Harmonizing R&B trio SWV released their single “Rain” in 1998. The song comes from the group’s 1997 album Release Some Tension. Singer and actor Tyrese appeared in the video.

In 2003, Ashanti released her single “Rain On Me,” which comes from her album Chapter II. On the somber track, she sang about “internally dying” and wanting to walk away from a problematic relationship.

In 1997, Missy Elliott dropped her hit single “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” which was produced by Timbaland and came from her album Supa Dupa Fly. The video for “The Rain,” became highly-lauded due to its futuristic visuals and creativity. In the video, Elliott wore her famous black trash bag jumpsuit.


6.Keke Wyatt ft. Pusha T “Rain”

The self-titled project features 5 original tracks including "Rain" featuring Pusha T and "Remember" featuring Nitty Scott MC. In 2014, soulful singer Keke Wyatt released her song “Rain” that was on her EP Ke’Ke’. The sensual song features Pusha T.

In 1995, Soul For Real released their cult classic single “Candy Rain,” which came from their album of the same title. The song reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top 40/Rhythm-Crossover airplay chart.
