A Nipsey Hussle documentary is coming to Netflix, and it’s directed by Oscar-nominated director Ava Duvernay, as Deadline reports. The film will be co-produced by both Duvernay’s ARRAY banner and Hussle’s Marathon Films.

Netflix secured the documentary following an intense bidding war that was hosted by CAA. This project will mark Duvernay’s first return to documentaries since the Los Angeles native directed the highly lauded 13th.

The collaboration comes less than a year following Hussle’s tragic death, last March. The “Victory Lap” rapper was fatally shot in South Los Angeles outside of his apparel store, The Marathon Clothing.

Duvernay honored Nipsey Hussle last month, via a tribute during the Grammys. Hussle’s estate directly reached out to Duvernay to take on the project.
