Local gym owner opens his doors in direct defiance with the Governor’s orders
Governor Baker announced yesterday his plans on reopening the state. As part of his 4 phase plan, gyms would not be able to officially reopen until phase 3. However, Dave Blondin, the owner of Prime Fitness and Nutrition in Oxford, decided to open Monday in defiance of the governor’s order. According to Dave: “I believe it’s a choice,” Blondin said. “If you want to work out, you should work out. If you don’t want to work out, then don’t work out.”
Despite taking extra precautions including not allowing new members or more than 25% capacity at one time, the gym is technically not allowed to open. According to Blondin: “In my opinion, it’s worth me fighting for my rights in the Constitution,” Blondin said. “People’s mental health is severely declining.”
Local police are not havin’ it. They said that he would be fined every day that he keeps his gym open. But Dave is not backing down. We spoke to him this morning and he says his members are willing to pay any fines he’s set to receive. He says police are going today at 3pm to give him a $50 fine and after today, it may jump to $1,000 a day. He’s setting up a Gofundme to accept donations to pay the fines he gets.
