Juice WRLD’s mother launches charitable organization in his honor
Yesterday was World Mental Health Day and Juice WRLD’s mother launched the official website for Live Free 999 – a charitable organization founded in the late rapper’s honor.
Carmella Wallace announced this in an open letter over the weekend, about 10 months after her son died of an accidental drug overdose. In the letter she talked about his passion for music as well as his struggles with addition, anxiety, and depression.
“I recognized that what Jarad was dealing with was a disease and I know he truly wanted to be free from the demons that tormented him,” she wrote in a letter shared with Complex. “As a parent, I believed early on and supported Jarad having access to counseling. I encouraged him to always share his feelings.”
The primary goal of Live Free 999 is to support programs that help young people address their mental health issues like depression and substance abuse. They recently donated musical instruments to Juice WRLD’s childhood school in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to promote music education.
