Along with a number of other huge announcements, Marvel Studios officially announced today that the Black Panther movie franchise will live on, and that they will not recast King T’Challa in the wake of Chadwick Boseman's tragic death earlier this year.

Disney tweeted, “Black Panther 2, opening July 8, 2022, is being written & directed by Ryan Coogler. Honoring Chadwick Boseman’s legacy & portrayal of T’Challa,  @MarvelStudios
will not recast the character, but will explore the world of Wakanda & the rich characters introduced in the first film.” Coogler directed the first Black Panther. Principle cast members Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are expected to return.
