William Gross, Boston's first Black Police Commissioner, is retiring from the department on Friday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced on Thursday.
Gross has served the department for 37 years, becoming Police Commissioner in 2018. Dennis White, BPD Superintendent, has been appointed as the department's 43rd Police Commissioner. "I'm confident that Dennis will continue to advance the progress made by Commissioner Gross," said Walsh.
There is no news yet as to why Gross has chosen to retire, although there is continued speculation that he will be running for Mayor.
