The Bachelor’s Matt James is responding to the controversy surrounding his season and the reason for host Chris Harrison stepping away from the show. Current cast member Rachael Kirkconnell has come under fire for racist behavior on social media including pictures of her at a 2018 antebellum south party. When talking about it, Bachelor host Chris Harrison seemed to defend her actions. Chris has since apologized saying he’s taking time off from the show and until yesterday we hadn’t heard from Matt James, the show’s current and first black bachelor. Matt says the past few weeks of his life have been the most challenging and he found out about Rachael’s past in real time like the rest of us. He adds that it’s been devastating finding these things out and that he feels The Bachelor as a franchise has fallen short in addressing these types of racial issues and it has caused him to reevaluate what his process on the show represents.
