Mateo’s UPS Wish Comes True
There is nothing I love more than seeing happy kids. Six-year-old Mateo Toscano is from Stockton, California and has battled leukemia since 2017, and his dream was to be a delivery driver. Thanks to a partnership between Make-A-Wish, UPS, and Macy’s, Mateo’s wish came true. Mateo got his own license, uniform, and mini UPS truck. Is this not the cutest thing ever! Mateo’s mom Cynthia said that this was his first big adventure outdoors since he was diagnosed.
Mateo drove around town with “UPS Dave” who gave him instructions on picking up and delivering packages. When they stopped to make a delivery at City Hall, Mayor Kevin Lincoln made a proclamation that it was #MateoDeliversHopeDay.
Special thanks to Heather Davidson from Make-A-Wish who helped me with this story, and to bring you more info on Mateo and the work of Make-A-Wish. Looking forward to working with them more in the future.
Mateo’s wish was granted in partnership with Macy’s and UPS by Make-A-Wish® Northeastern and Central California & Northern Nevada, one of 59 Make-A-Wish chapters across the country.
Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. A wish can be an integral part of a child’s treatment plan, serving as a spark to help them believe anything is possible. In the face of life-threatening medical conditions, wishes enable children to experience profound joy, renewed strength and resiliency, and lasting hope to keep striving and dreaming for the future.
The vision of Make-A-Wish is to grant the wish of every medically eligible child. If you know a child who might be eligible for a wish, please encourage their family to learn more at www.wish.org/refer.
Locally in Hot 96.9’s neighborhood, Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island grants the wishes of hundreds of children every year. From puppies and playsets to wishes for photography equipment, music videos, and wishes to give back, every wish granted represents a community of volunteers, donors, and other supporters coming together and united in compassionate generosity.
