Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday Is This Weekend
If you’ve been holding off on making certain purchases in anticipation of the tax free weekend here in Massachusetts, get ready, because here it comes!
The states tax holiday couldn’t come at a better, or worse time. COVID cases are on the rise, and businesses are having a hard time meeting demands because of staffing issues, and supply issues. But most businesses are in need of a boost. The tax free weekend ahead could mean big business to some of our smaller establishments.
So here it comes! Massachusetts’ 6.25% sales tax is going to be suspended for most purchases this Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15.
Keep in mind there are some restrictions.
According to Mass.gov the following do not qualify for the sales tax holiday exemption:
- Meals
- Motor vehicles
- Motorboats
- Telecommunications services
- Gas
- Steam
- Electricity
- Tobacco products
- Marijuana or marijuana products
- Alcoholic beverages, and
- Any single item whose price is more than $2,500.
Good news: You can buy this weekend and get the savings, even if you don’t take delivery right away.
Great time to shop for back to school, or maybe get that snow blower for the winter ahead.
