Today August 25th is National Banana Split Day!

Did you know Banana Splits were created in 1904 by David Evans Strickler, a 23-year-old pharmacist?

From ice cream to toppings and so much more, take a look at some tasty ways to make a banana split right at home!

• Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Banana Split

  chocolate ice cream topped with chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream topped with crushed sweetened pineapple, strawberry ice cream topped with strawberry compote or strawberry sauce, whipped cream, one banana, maraschino cherries, and peanuts or walnuts.

• Caramelized Banana Split with Espresso Hot Fudge Sauce

  Ingredients - ESPRESSO HOT FUDGE: 4 ounces 60% bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped, 1/4 cup heavy cream, 1 tablespoon light corn syrup, and 2 teaspoons instant espresso. CARAMELIZED BANANAS: 4 bananas, peeled, split lengthwise, and halved, 2 cups sugar, and 1/2 cup water. SUNDAE: 1 quart vanilla ice cream, 1 quart chocolate ice cream, 1 quart strawberry ice cream, 8 fresh strawberries, halved lengthwise, 1/4 cup lightly salted peanuts, chopped 1/2 cup 1/4 - to 1/2-in., cubed fresh pineapple, and 2 cups sweetened whipped cream.

• Banana Split Pops

  4 bananas, 8 popsicle sticks, 1 1/4 c. chocolate chips, 1 tbsp. coconut oil, 1/2 c. rainbow nonpareil sprinkles, whipped cream, for serving, and 8 maraschino cherries.
• Banana Split Cupcakes

  1 1/2 cups self-rising flour, 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened, 2 cups sugar, 4 large eggs, at room temperature, 1 cup milk, 1 cup banana puree, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

• Breakfast Banana Split

  Ingredients: For the Blueberry Strawberry Sauce: 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced, 1/2 cup fresh blueberries, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, and 1/3 cup water. For the Banana Split: 1 medium banana, peeled and sliced lengthwise, 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, and optional toppings: nuts, granola, fresh berries, etc.
