NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 15: Sascha Penn attends 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan' global premiere event and screening at Hammerstein Ballroom on July 15, 2021 in New York City.

Executive Producer for STARZ’s BMF is calling out mainstream media outlets for not reviewing the tv show. Penn wrote his frustrations in a message posted to his Instagram that said, “As Raising Kanan‘s first season ends and BMF’s season begins, I feel compelled to point out that, other than the NY Post and New York Magazine, not a single mainstream media publication has reviewed either series. Not the New York Times, The Washington Post, The L.A. Times…Across the country. Not even trade publications like The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.”

The BMF executive producer then went on to pose the reason why for the lack of media coverage insinuating the shortfall came from the care of the audience demographic being mostly Black.

“And to be clear, I’m not asking for positive reviews… But to ignore them all together is to say that these stories, this work, these actors, THIS AUDIENCE doesn’t matter. And that’s… We all know what that is.”

The EP captioned the post mentioning that there might be more said on the topic soon, “I have a lot more to say here, but as previously discussed, I suck at Instagram, so this is all I could get out. #raisingkanan. #bmfstar”

The Instagram message was then put on Twitter where one user wrote, “Sascha Penn, creator and showrunner of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, wrote this on IG. I think more people need to see it. Our stories can’t be in the conversation, whether it comes to buying or awards, if our stories lack marketing and are largely ignored by mainstream media.”
