Massachusetts House unanimously passes bill that would make hair discrimination illegal
The fact that this even has to be addressed, nevermind have a bill drawn up is ridiculous. The fact that anyone is discriminated against because of a hair style is ridiculous. Needless to say,
Last night, the Massachusetts House unanimously passed a bill banning race-based discrimination targeting hairstyles and textures. The measure prohibits discrimination based on “natural and protective hairstyles such as braids, locks, and wigs.” Supporters say Black women in particular face pressure in school and the workplace to alter their hair to conform to policies biased against natural hairstyles. In just two days, the Biden administration voiced its support for a similar effort at the federal level. The bill now heads to the Senate.
