Spencer Is The “Official Dog” Of The 126th Boston Marathon! (PICS)
Congratulations to Spencer the Dog, named the “Official Dog” of the 126th Boston Marathon!
He was even presented with his own official “Spencer” bib to mark the special occasion! Spencer, the beloved golden retriever who has been motivating runners on the Boston Marathon route, was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, underwent surgery and just completed chemotherapy.
His owner, Richard Powers, told CBS-TV4, “When he got sick, people were afraid he wouldn’t make it again. The past two marathons, this one included, it was really unlikely. It’s a miracle. He’s a miracle boy. He’s an inspiration for a lot of people that you can do it.”
Will Spencer be bringing joy to this year’s runners? Richard Powers said, “The same judgement call whether he’s going to go is the same one I’ve had since 2014. Can’t be too hot, has to be feeling good. It’s all about him.”
Let’s hope that Spencer will be well enough to show off his new bib and bring smiles to all of this year’s Boston Marathon runners!
On behalf of the @BAA, we recognize Spencer the Dog, who has become an icon for Boston Marathoners every year.
