Ja Rule Ask Why ‘We Never Put Ladies In’ Hip-Hop’s ‘Mount Rushmore’
A topic that hip-hop fans always debate is: who is the King of Rap. There’s always a few rappers that are consistently mentioned in the conversation but in a recent interview per HotNewHipHop, Ja Rule named who would be in the top four and be on his ideal “Rap Mount Rushmore.”
Ja quickly named three iconic rappers to be enlisted on his Rap Mount Rushmore: Jay-Z, Tupac Shakur, and The Notorious B.I.G. While admitting that it was difficult to come up with a fourth one, he took it back to old school hip-hop for his last choice.
“Either Big Daddy Kane, or Rakim, or [KRS One] because of what they did for the culture and what they meant to the culture,” he said per the outlet. “And what Rakim was to a Nas, you know what I’m saying? What KRS was to a whole generation of rappers.”
Surprisingly, he had a shocking comment when mentioning whether to name a woman rapper as part of his Rap Mount Rushmore: “We never put the ladies in there… MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa.”
“They’re the reason other women picked up a microphone, period. How can you leave them off? You gotta [pick] one of them and put them on there,” one of the hosts chimed back. Ja Rule would later give major credit to Lil’ Kim despite not putting her on his monument.
