The 2022 VMAS airs live on Aug. 28 and is available to watch on the CW, in addition to BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1.
“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events, Paramount+ per Variety. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”
Nicki is a 17-time VMAs nominee and five-time VMAs winner. She won her first award in 2011 for "Best Hip-Hop Video" and this year is nominated in the "Best Hip-Hop" category for her single “Do We Have a Problem?” featuring Atlanta rapper Lil Baby.
Nicki shared her excitement with her fans via Twitter writing, "I’m receiving the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 ! You don’t want to miss my performance – Sunday August 28 at 8p on @MTV Aaaahhhhhh."
Previous recipients of the award include: Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna, P!nk, Jennifer Lopez, and Missy Elliott.

Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, & Jack Harlow Lead 2022 Video Music Award Nominations
MTV has unveiled the nominees for their 2022 Video Music Awards. Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, and Jack Harlow lead the pack with seven nominations each.
Following behind the aforementioned is Doja Cat with six nominations, while Drake and The Weekend grab five noms each. 26 artists are up for their first VMA trophy, including Baby Keem, Tems, and Muni Long.
Starting today (July 26), fans can vote for their favorite artists 22 gender-neutral categories, including "Video of the Year," "Artist of the Year," and "Best Collaboration." There are also two new categories that are being introduced this year which are “Best Longform Video” and “Best Metaverse Performance." Voting will conclude on August 19.
The 2022 VMAs are set to broadcast live on Sunday, August 28th, from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Fans can watch the live ceremony on MTV as well as BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, VH1, and The CW.
The 2022 VMA host, performers, announcers, and nominees for social categories will be announced at a later date.
