Nicki Minaj Receives Backlash After Tweet About PnB Rock’s Death
Nicki Minaj has gotten some backlash over a controversial tweet she made about PnB Rock’s death. The Philly native was shot and killed in Los Angeles Monday (Sept. 12). The rapper was dining with his girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang at a local Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles where he was gunned down over jewelry. He later died at a local hospital about 30 minutes later.
While there was an outpouring of love and condolences to the rapper’s family, fans were taken aback by Nicki’s tweet which seemed insensitive to the late rapper’s girlfriend.
“After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts,” Nicki After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. “Come on Nicki. Not you hopping on the bandwagon and blaming his girlfriend. This is such a distasteful thing to say in a time like this. Do better,” come on Nicki. Not you hopping on the bandwagon and blaming his girlfriend. This is such a distasteful thing to say in a time like this. Do better.
PnB Rock, born Rakim Hasheem Allen, was a Philadelphia native who is best known for his 2016 breakout single “Selfish,” which peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. The rapper was previously signed to Atlantic Records but had decided to go independent recently. He just released a new song on Sept. 2 titled “Luv Me Again.”
Rock spoke about prior robbery attempts in Los Angeles during a Sept. 2 episode of the podcast Off the Record with DJ Akademiks. “Where I’m from, we like sneaky criminals,” Rock said. “In L.A. … they bold.” Rock and Akademiks spoke about how robberies targeting rappers seemed to be becoming more common.
“I never got robbed, ever in my life,” Rock said. “I ain’t gonna say never because I don’t like saying never. I’m not superstitious, but I haven’t been robbed.”
The rapper added that his mind began to shift after he lost his oldest brother. “It’s just been something in me that just let me know, like this s— real life,” Rock said. “I done seen people die. I done been around people that died…. Anybody can die.”
