New Edition made their “hometown” tour stop on Friday night in Providence. The Legacy Tour also featured Guy, Tank and Keith Sweat. The show was at the Amica Pavilion in Providence and was very full. The crowd was warmed up by music from Hot 96.9’s Dre Breeze and The Getup Crew’s own Melissa introduced the first artist, Tank. Tank performed for about 30 minutes. Guy came on stage next featuring the three original members: Teddy Riley, Damion Hall and Aaron Hall.  Keith Sweat came out next and Teddy Riley even stayed on stage to perform with him. New Edition finally took the stage around 9:55pm and performed hit after hit non stop until around 11:20pm. All of the members of the group were there: Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Ralph, Mike and Johnny.  Now the one question that was buzzing through the show until the boys took the stage was: Would Bobby Brown show up? Reason being, he had a bit of a health issue at a previous show, one that he addressed on social media. He addressed the issue on his IG posting “I love my New York fans. I’m on the mend and looking forward to performing in Providence tonight. I’d like to thank my New Edition brothers for carrying the show and bringing New York the New Edition heat.” So what was REALLY going on with Bobby? Word from his lawyer, Christopher Brown, is that he had gotten food poisoning but that he would be just fine in Providence. He DID perform in Providence, but was noticeably absent for a few songs. Assuming this was just a precautionary measure, Bobby did do the best he could while he was on stage. Overall, New Edition put on an amazing show, as they always do when they make their way “home.” Oh, and after speaking to the tour manager, the main reason the boys didn’t stop in Boston was because of scheduling conflicts with both the Bruins and Celtics playoff runs. They didn’t want to perform anywhere other than the Garden so that would’ve made it difficult. Either way, it seemed as if everyone who was there had the best time. The show really was amazing and I can’t wait til they come back again! Here are some pictures taken by me (Melissa) that night.
