BEST Italian Restaurant Right Here in Boston? Experience Umbria, A Taste of Italy In The North End
There’s a new Italian restaurant in the North End of Boston and it’s absolutely STUNNING. Umbria is located at 250 Hanover Street in Boston and is the brainchild of Frank Depasquale. Umbria is a taste of Italy right in the North End. We went to the soft opening friends and family opening night on Tuesday and got a tour from the wonderful Matthew. The detail that went into building this state of the art restaurant is just astounding. Stone was imported straight from southern Italy. There is also original woodwork that is over 400 years old. A retractable roof allows you to sit on the patio when it’s 20 degrees out OR when it’s 100 degrees as it is equipped with both AC and heat. The way Umbria was described to us was “fine dining that has a soul. It feels like home in Italy.”
Now, onto the food. We were able to sample much of what was on the menu including the amazing filet mignon which was cooked to perfection from Executive Chef Nello. My friends got the swordfish which was perfectly tender and flavorful. The lobster dumpling appetizers were absolutely perfect. We also tried the cesar salad which had a delicious soft bread crouton. The shrimp cocktail were HUGE and the cocktail sauce had a yummy kick to it. It was very unique tasting. Tuna tartare was delicious as well. Not to mention, the desserts were UNBELIEVABLE. We ordered one of everything. From chocolate cake, to “burnt cheesecake,” to skillet chocolate chip cookie. We really didn’t have a bad dish.
Oh and the DRINKS! They have everything from espresso martinis to a delicious hot and dirty martini to an “inferno margarita.”
Umbria will be open to the public starting Thursday 7/20. Reservations are encouraged. Dress code is casual and hours are daily 4pm until 1am
