Nicki Minaj Reveals Why She Doesn’t Get Political Anymore

Nicki Minaj is no longer commenting on political issues. While speaking to Vogue in her Novemeber/December cover story, the rapper claims people get "mad" whenever she brings up anything political.

"I’m one of those people who doesn’t go with a crowd," the rapper expressed. "I like to make my own assessment of everything without help from everyone."

She added that she does not want to be told what to do in regard to who to campaign for. The rapper also mentioned that the government is not transparent, adding that "we don’t know what’s going on" and that your political affiliation does not matter when it comes to that.

In 2021, Nicki faced backlash for her COVID-19 tweets about her cousin.

"My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen," she tweeted at the time. "His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied."

She then went on to speak about the Met Gala and what it would actually take for her to get vaccinated. It is important to note that she did tell her fans to mask up.

"They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t [be] for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one," Nicki wrote.

Nicki has over 28 million followers on X (formerly known as Twitter) so her tweets went viral easily which brought the attention to health officials. Trinidad and Tobago’s Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, set the record straight on Nicki's tweets.

"As we stand now, there is absolutely no reported side effect or adverse event of testicular swelling in Trinidad... and none that we know of anywhere in the world," he said in a press conference at the time.
