2 Massachusetts Hotels Named Top 100 New Hotels in the World

Travel & Leisure is the go-to guide for travelers. And each year, they come up with the top new hotels in the world. And TWO Massachusetts hotels are on this year's list.

According to the website, it's a lot of work to pick the best. They go "to the most game-changing hotel openings (and reopenings)...." and

"taken Travel + Leisure editors and contributors to 39 countries on six continents. We started with a list of more than 200 soon-to-open hotels, and T+L editors and reporters visited nearly 130 of them over the last 12 months."

According to T&L, Faraway Martha's Vineyard "trades the old-school nautical aesthetic found throughout the Vineyard for something breezy, refined, and whimsical...

"Bohemian influences from the 1960s and ‘70s are felt throughout the 58 guest rooms and suites — which range from standard rooms in Kelley House to two-bedroom suites in the adjacent houses — and in the lobby, with ceiling-high bookshelves adorned with bursts of jewel-toned florals and black-and-white tapestries...

"The lush outdoor Pelican Club offers tropical cocktails and delicious sushi."

FUN FACT!

Bob and I went to the Pelican Club last summer with Dave and Carolyn. It was the second day of service and it was so gorgeous. But man, be prepared for expensive drinks. Bob picked up the check not knowing the FOUR pina coladas we ordered were north of $100 total. It was a hot day, so I couldn't tell if his sweating was from the heat or the bill!

"The 137-year-old Raffles hotel brand is finally making a splash in North America — and in Boston, of all places," according to T&L.

"Opened in September and set in a 35-story tower in the well-heeled Back Bay neighborhood, it is as smashing as you’d expect.

"Butler service was discreet and attentive — after check-in, I found a chilled cranberry cocktail called the “Boston Sling” (a nod to the Singapore Sling, which was created at the flagship property in 1915) waiting in the room’s glass-fronted wooden bar."

Chilmark, MA - Former SNL star has a home up island on Martha's Vineyard. He’s also the co-founder of the House of Blues. He's also the co-founder of Crystal Head Tequila.

Andover, MA – The former Tonight Show Host and car enthusiasts is now spending most his time in Massachusetts. We wish Jay a speedy recovery after a severe motorcycle accident.

Chilmark, MA – The couple have a home in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard. (Dan Aykroyd is a neighbor!) Ted Danson stared in the 80's sitcom Cheers. Mary Steenburgen won an Oscar for her performance in Melvin and Howard.

Cambridge, MA – He has a massive mansion in Cambridge worth a small penny. Most times he’s on the road but still calls Cambridge his hub. He's most notable for staring in the movie Being John Malkovich.

Cambridge, MA – Yes, we all know who Elizabeth Warren is. When she’s not fighting for commonwealth of Massachusetts in DC , she can be found living in Cambridge. She’s been there for over 20 years!

Oaks Bluffs, MA – The award winning Director and Huge New York sports fan owns a home on the the Vineyard. He also had a feud with long time Boston Celtic Paul Pierce.

Chatham, MA – Ranked among the top 60 best-selling male artists in the United States, by the Recording Industry Association of America. Connick Jr. owns a summer house in Chatham.

Martha’s Vineyard, MA – The singer songwriter has had a place in The Vineyard since 1983 when her and James Taylor where married. She now solely owns the property after her divorce from James Taylor.

Berkshires, MA – The full time Massachusetts resident can be found out in the Berkshires, Lenox to be exact. You can still catch him perform live this summer at Tanglewood.

Tyringham, MA – The legendary Chinese-American Cellist has a home out in Tyringham. Have any idea where that is? Well it’s out in western Mass near the NY-MA boarder. He also is still releasing new music.
