The 2024 Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic Is Over – Here Are Your Winners
The 2024 Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic has wrapped, and it was another year of incredible creations by some talented artists. The classic took place from June 20th – 22nd with this year’s theme of “Sand Wars – May the Beach Be With You.” Let’s take a look at the event and this years winners.
History Of The Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic
It all started with a quarter. Back in 2000, there was a statewide celebration in New Hampshire for the release of The New Hampshire Quarter. At the time, Greg Grady, a local artist and master sand sculptor was commissioned by the U.S. Mint to create a large replica of the new tail side edition of the New Hampshire quarter. It was to be shown at the Hampton Beach Children’s Festival. The following year, the first annual Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Competition took place.
The invitational only event is the largest Masters competition in the Northeast United States. (HamptonBeach.org)
The 2024 Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic Winners
Competitors are vying for $25,000 in prize money. The First Place winner receives $6,000; Second Place $4,000; Third Place $3,000; Fourth Place $2,000. The People’s Choice Award Winner receives $1,000, and non-placing competitors receive $1,500. There is also a Sculptor’s Choice Award that is only a prestige award, granted by their peers, that has no monetary prize.
This years first place winner is David Ducharme. His piece is called “Sofias Cradle.” Ducharme won the $6,000 dollar grand prize.
In second place was Dmitry Klimenko from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Klimenko won $4,000 dollars for his sculpture called, “A Step Beyond.” Here, he talks about his inspiration for his sculpture, and what it means.
And in third place in the 2024 Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic is Melineige Beauregard with her sculpture “Inception!” Beauregard was last year’s first place winner.
And this isn’t the end, the Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic will be back in 2025. The 25th will be held from June 12 – 14, 2025. Congrats to all the winners and participants in the 2024 Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Classic.
