Chef Jason Santos On New Watertown Restaurant, Hosting Bar Rescue, & A Good Steak
You can’t miss Chef Jason Santos. Whether it’s because of his bright blue hair, Bar Rescue, or his mouthwatering biscuits, Jason’s impact on the restaurant scene is unmistakable. He recently stopped by for a visit with the GetUp Crew to talk about his new hosting duties on Bar Rescue, his new Watertown restaurant, and his love for a good steak.
About Chef Jason Santos
Jason is extremely passionate about food and cooking and that passion developed before he even hit his 9th birthday. He grew up experimenting in his grandmother’s kitchen while watching Julia Child.
He graduated from Newbury College’s culinary arts program by 19, and got started on his career in the kitchen at Tremont 647 where he made his way up to executive chef. Fast forward to today, he has opened 5 restaurants, including the just-opened ButterBird in Watertown. His other restaurants include: Citrus & Salt, Nash Bar & Stage, and two Buttermilk & Bourbon locations in Boston and Watertown.
“Buttermilk & Bourbon is a New Orleans influenced restaurant with as much character and charm as the city itself.” And “Citrus & Salt is a coastal Mexican restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay.” (Jason Santos website)
Chef Jason Santos – Beyond The Kitchen
In addition to the many restaurants he’s opened, Jason has had much success with other endeavors, including cookbooks and television.
He has Simple Fancy: A Chef’s Big-Flavor Recipes for Easy Weeknight Cooking. I don’t now about you, but I could always use an easy weeknight recipe.
He also has Buttermilk & Bourbon: New Orleans Recipes With A Modern Flair. Included in this book, “Make his signature dishes at home like Literally the Best Fried Chicken Wings in the History of Chicken and Flamin‘ Hot Cheeto Mac & Cheese. Binge on Smoked Gouda Cornbread or go all in on New Orleans BBQ Shrimp with Jalapeño Grits. Finish with a signature cocktail like Voodoo on the Bayou and desserts like Fresh Fried Beignets.” (Amazon)
