Free COVID-19 tests have been a thing of the past, but looks like they're about to make a comeback. I don't know about you, but having to pay for COVID-19 tests after a period of getting them for free, made it frustrating to say the least. But the good news is, that's all about to change.

When Will Free COVID-19 Tests Be Available?

With the price of COVID-19 tests being on the "not cheap" side, this will definitely be a relief. What I've seen on the shelves, one test was about $10 dollars, and a 5-pack that I recently purchased was $35 dollars! Talk about kicking you, when you're possibly, COVID down. Well the good news is that Free COVID-19 tests are coming back. A specific date hasn't been given yet, but reports say that you will be able to put in an order by the end of September.

How Do I Get My Free COVID-19 Tests?

According to the COVID test website, "U.S. households will be eligible to order 4 free COVID-19 tests at COVIDTests.gov. The COVID-19 Tests will detect current COVID-19 variants and can be used through the end of the year."

What If I Have Expired COVID tests?

If you happen to have some extra COVID tests hanging around the house, you may still be able to use them. Many COVID-19 tests have extended expiration dates. If you think your COVID-19 test may have expired, you can check the FDA’s website to get info on whether or not you can still use them.

New COVID Vaccine Will Be Available

The announcement of the free COVID tests comes as the government is urging people to get an updated COVID-19 booster. This ahead of the fall and winter virus season. The The FDA announced that it greenlit updated vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna for the 2024 fall season. Novavax is expected to get approval this year as well. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends all Americans ages 6 months and older get a shot of the "updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine."
