Dunkin’ Offering Free Coffee and More for National Coffee Day
Dunkin’ is giving away free coffee in honor of National Coffee Day, which is taking place on Sunday, September 29.
Per the Dunkin’ Newsroom, Dunkin’ Rewards members can snag a free medium hot or iced coffee with purchase through the Dunkin’ app.
There is a limit of one free coffee per rewards member, and the offer excludes Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew varieties, as well as gift card purchases. Additional charges and terms may apply, including the addition of dairy alternatives, cold foams, flavors and espresso shots.
Furthermore, Dunkin’ notes, “Offer valid for members who order ahead in the Dunkin’ App. Offer not available on delivery platforms or through guest orders in the Dunkin’ App. ”
On top of the free coffee, Dunkin’ is partnering with Homesick and selling a scented candle and a car air freshener. The Original Blend Candle retails for $34.95 and features notes of espresso bean, cold brewed coffee and cream.
Meanwhile, the Perfect Combo Car Freshener retails for $12 and smells like a mix of coffee grounds and strawberry to replicate the smell of an iced coffee with cream and a Dunkin’ frosted strawberry sprinkle donut.
Both items will be available at Homesick.com beginning on September 27 at 10 AM EST.
Origins of National Coffee Day
For many, National Coffee Day is basically every day, but National Day Archives notes that the first time it was celebrated was on September 29, 2005. The day really took off as a “holiday” on September 29, 2009. On that date, the Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans recognized the “holiday” to kick off the very first New Orleans Coffee Festival.
Americans have had a centuries-long history with coffee. DaysOfTheYear.com says coffee was first introduced to North America by Captain John Smith in 1607. That love of coffee has seemingly grown with every century. National Day Archives reports that the United States drinks more coffee than any other country in the world, with the average American adult drinking about 2.7 cups of coffee per day. Around 150 million Americans drink at least one cup of coffee on any given day. All of this coffee drinking adds up, and on average, Americans drink about 140 billion cups of coffee every year.
There are other adjacent “holidays” to National Coffee Day. On September 6, it’s Coffee Ice Cream Day. On July 26, it’s Coffee Milkshake Day. Finally, Irish Coffee Day is celebrated on January 25.
