Logan Express Parking Garage in Framingham to Get Major Upgrades
With its goal of getting residents to Boston’s Logan International Airport more easily, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has launched a significant expansion of the Logan Express parking garage at 11 Burr St. in Framingham. The project, which kicked off on Monday, Dec. 9, will double the garage’s current capacity while reducing traffic congestion around Logan.
The parking garage’s expansion will build three levels onto the existing garage at Shoppers World, bringing about 1,000 parking spaces to the structure. Construction on the project begins in January 2025 and is expected to wrap up in the winter of 2025. Beginning Monday, Jan. 6, individuals will need to use the temporary Logan Express parking station at Garage F of the Natick Mall.
“Massport’s made a concerted effort in the last few years to invest in our HOV strategy, getting folks on buses, getting them on the MBTA — getting them on private buses, for that matter — to get to the airport,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey in an interview with NBC10 Boston.
Massport officials expect the expansion to allow their agency to increase bus service frequency from every half hour to every 20 minutes in the future. Massport said its LEX bus service transported more than 630,000 riders in 2023, exceeding its numbers from 2019.
State Senate President Karen Spilka, D-Ashland, praised the project at Monday’s groundbreaking. “During the holiday season, we’re all too familiar with the challenges we might face trying to get across the country to visit our people,” she said in remarks during the event. “I think there are many reasons why using the Logan Express is a good idea, especially this time of year.”
The Framingham Logan Express site, which opened in 2014, is among five that operate in Greater Boston. MassPort’s Logan Express includes additional locations in Boston’s Back Bay, Braintree, Danvers, and Woburn.
