The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has announced it will suspend Red Line service between JFK/UMass and Braintree during the weekends of March 8-9, 22-23, and 29-30.

According to an MBTA news release, the weekend service suspension will allow signal upgrade work to be completed on the Red Line. "The new upgraded signal system will allow for more frequent service, improved scheduling, and enhanced safety," the release stated. "By upgrading its signals, the MBTA expects to significantly increase operational efficiency, reducing wait times and improving scheduling reliability for all riders."

In response to the service disruption, the MBTA will offer free, accessible shuttle buses for stops between JFK/UMass and Braintree.

MBTA officials encourage passengers to use the Greenbush, Kingston, and Middleborough Commuter Rail lines to receive fare-free service between Braintree, JFK/UMass, South Station, and Quincy Center.

Information about the service changes can be found on in-station signage, in-station public announcements, and alerts on the MBTA website.
