Boston to Host Inaugural Duck Boat Pull for Youth Sports Funding
The city of Boston is gearing up for a unique fundraising event that combines local iconic transportation with community engagement and youth sports support. On April 12, 2025, Boston Common will be the stage for the first annual Duck Boat Pull, organized by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with Boston Duck Tours.
Event Details
- Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025
- Location: Boston Common
- Challenge: Teams of 10 will race to pull a 21,000-pound duck boat across a designated course
- Goal: Raise funds for Boston’s free youth sports and fitness programs
Participation and Impact
Teams consisting of 10 participants aged 16 and up are invited to compete in this extraordinary challenge. Each team is required to make a $1,000 donation ($100 per person) to participate, with all proceeds directly funding the city’s free youth sports programs. These programs, which include leagues, tournaments, and fitness initiatives, served over 20,000 young people in Boston in 2024.
Mayor Michelle Wu expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “This first-of-its-kind event is a great opportunity for community to come together and participate in a competition that’s so uniquely Boston”.
Registration and Sponsorship
Interested participants can register their teams at boston.gov/duck-boat-pull, with a registration deadline of March 26, 2025. The event also offers sponsorship opportunities for businesses and organizations, with a March 21, 2025 deadline to have logos featured on event materials.
WCVB Channel 5 sports reporter and producer Alexis Beckett will emcee the event, adding to the excitement of this innovative fundraiser.
As Boston prepares for this distinctive event, it promises to be a day of community spirit, friendly competition, and support for youth sports programming in the city.
