Actor Mindy Kaling Says Her Dunkin’ Love Shows True Massachusetts Roots
During a conversation with Seth Meyers on “Late Night,” Cambridge native Mindy Kaling talked about her Massachusetts connections. She told Myers that her deep love for Dunkin’ is her most obvious New England characteristic.
The coffee chain, which started in Quincy back in 1950, really connected with Kaling from the start. Now, its shops are scattered all over the northeast, keeping its New England identity strong.
On the show, she mentioned local moments like the massive ’78 blizzard and the incredible ’86 Celtics championship. That storm pounded New England with record-breaking snow, while the basketball win gave Boston its 16th title.
Even though Kaling wasn’t around for the famous blizzard, she talked about it like a true local. The monster storm dumped 27 inches of snow on Boston, causing chaos throughout the area.
With Larry Bird leading the way, the ’86 Celtics crushed it that season with 67 wins. That amazing team, which included four future Hall of Famers, was nearly unbeatable at Boston Garden, going 40-1 at home.
Seth Meyers noticed how Kaling doesn’t fit the usual Massachusetts stereotype. Most people think of “Massholes” as aggressive drivers who are obsessed with Boston sports.
Between her work writing and acting in “The Office” and creating “The Mindy Project,” Kaling has become a TV star. She’s part of a group of performers who are proud to show off their New England roots.
She puts Dunkin’ in the same league as fancy bakeries – not just regular coffee shops. This feeling matches many New Englanders who see the brand as a local treasure.
