The community of Haverhill has announced the addition of a new furry team member, a K9 named Rex. Rex, an 18‑month‑old German Shepherd, joins the Haverhill Police Department as the police force welcomes its first-ever police K9.

According to an Eagle-Tribune report, Mayor Melinda Barrett presented Rex to the city council, along with his handler, Officer Justin Graham. The ceremony took place in Haverhill's city council chambers, where Rex was formally introduced to the officials.

Key participants in the introduction included Barrett, City Councilor Melissa Lewandowski, Rex, and Graham.

A Facebook post by Haverhill police noted that Rex and Graham have been attending intensive training courses in obedience, tracking, building searches, and article detection.

"Both K9 Rex and Officer Graham are eager to put their skills to work serving and protecting the citizens of Haverhill in their new roles," the post said.
