Boston Diner Named Best Mom-and-Pop Restaurant

A Boston breakfast and lunch dining spot has taken top honors as the best mom-and-pop restaurant in Massachusetts.

The food lover's website LoveFood named Theo's Cozy Corner at 162 Salem St. in Boston's North End as the state's best mom-and-pop restaurant, recognizing its family-run, comfort-food ethos as a standout in Massachusetts.

According to the LoveFood website, Theo's Cozy Corner began as Cozy Corner and was renamed when Theo Cristo, who started there as a dishwasher in 1989, eventually purchased the restaurant. The website's editors called Theo's Cozy Corner "a super-popular breakfast and lunch destination" that "serves up Italian and American classics, including pasta and sandwiches, while the house special is moqueca, a seafood stew from Cristo's native Brazil."
