Salem Celebrating 400-Year History, Launch Party Set for Jan. 10

The City of Salem invites community members to enjoy a year-long celebration commemorating Salem's 400-year history on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. This launch party for Salem 400+ will blend traditional winter activities with special events promoting community engagement. It will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Salem High School, 77 Willson St.
According to a City of Salem news release, the following activities will be part of the Salem 400+ festivities:
- Adult and children's programs: While children can enjoy supervised activities, adults learn more about programs planned for the Salem 400+ celebration and organizations involved in shaping Salem's future.
- Complimentary food and beverages: Guests can enjoy free food and drinks inspired by Salem's 400-year culinary journey from a menu curated and prepared by the students of the Salem High School CTE Culinary Arts Program. Additional food will be available for purchase; proceeds will support the Black Cat Cafe and the Culinary Program.
- Silent auction: Individuals can bid on local treasures and experiences donated by community partners. All proceeds will support Salem 400+ programs throughout the year.
- Volunteer fair and community connections: Explore dozens of local organizations and learn about meaningful ways to be part of making history in 2026.
- Winter wonderland: Members of the public are invited to gather around fire pits and enjoy complimentary s'mores and hot cocoa while witnessing sculpted ice mosaics.
