Boston police officials have announced they will boost patrols and restrict pedestrian access around college campuses and popular social gathering spots on Super Bowl Sunday to keep celebrations around the Patriots-Seahawks matchup as safe as possible.

According to a Boston Globe report, Boston Police Commissioner Michael A. Cox sent letters to colleges outlining steps to boost safety and deter risky behavior, including extra patrols at drinking spots and neighborhoods known for house parties.

To that end, parking and vehicle access will be restricted around Boston University and Northeastern University, as well as in busy corridors such as Brighton, Kenmore Square, Faneuil Hall, and North Station. Pedestrian access will be limited starting around 8 p.m. Sunday in Kenmore Square, Boylston Street, and Hemenway Street.

Cox further urged students to celebrate responsibly, stay aware of their surroundings, and be prepared for dangerously cold weather. Another wave of arctic air is expected to settle into New England ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, bringing highs in the teens and wind chills that could reach into the negative 20s or 30s.

“Should you behave in a way that warrants the intervention of Boston or campus police, your name will be shared with your respective dean of students for appropriate discipline,” Cox stated.

The New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX at 6:30 p.m. in Santa Clara, California.
