The Average 4th of July Cookout Cost Is Going Up This Year
Ready for your 4th of July Cookout? Get ready to pay more this year! Inflation is making the great American BBQ cost more.
According to a new survey from the American Farm Bureau Federation, Americans will pay on average just under $70 for their favorite Independence Day meal. Items like cheeseburgers, pork chops, chicken breasts, homemade potato salad, strawberries and ice cream are all on the rise.
The overall cost of our July 4th barbecue is up around 17% or $10 over last year.
Blame ongoing supply chain issues, the Ukrainian war, and inflation according to the study.
“Despite higher food prices, the supply chain disruptions and inflation have made farm supplies more expensive,” AFBF Chief Economist Roger Cryan said.
“Bottom line, in many cases the higher prices farmers are being paid aren’t covering the increase in their farm expenses. The cost of fuel is up and fertilizer prices have tripled.”
So whether you’re grilling the summertime staples of hamburgers and hot dogs, or going a little fancier with the chicken and steaks, your backyard barbecue is going to cost you a bit more this Independence Day weekend.
