Fast and Furriest 5K: Run, Walk, Wag for MSPCA-Angell

The event takes place Sunday, May 22 at DCR Baxter Park at Assembly Row in Somerville, Mass.  The all-new community event combines the interests of past “Walk for Animals” and “Run Fur Fun” participants in a timed 5K fun run, a shorter walk and a “Ducky Dash” kids’ fun run—each featuring canines, of course.

Early registration has set a torrid pace for fundraising.  Already over $120,000 has been raised to support ongoing animal care programs at the MSPCA, and the organization hopes to double that amount by the time the event concludes. The Fast and Furriest online “honor roll” provides rolling updates on top raising individuals and teams.

Get Set!

Online registration is now closed and on-site registration opens at 8:00 a.m. the day of the event.  The “Ducky Dash” kicks off at 9:00 a.m., followed by the 5K at 10:00 a.m.  The run and walk will be followed by activities including vendor booths, food and contests and entertainment for the whole family.

Registration is $35 for adults and $15 for children, with the opportunity to fundraise and win amazing prizes—from flat screen televisions and Kindles to smart watches, drones and more.  All funds raised will benefit the tens of thousands of animals served every year by the MSPCA’s three adoption centers, hospitals and other animal protection programs.

The race course is flat and scenic but the event is first and foremost a fun run, with hundreds of participants running and walking alongside their dogs.  There will be awards for the top five male and female run finishers along with contests and raffles for all participants.
