Sports betting became legal in Massachusetts yesterday. To commemorate the occasion, all three Massachusetts casinos had honorary celebrities in attendance to place the “first bets” at their respective sports books. Melissa and Leroy from The Getup Crew were in attendance at Encore Boston Harbor’s celebration on Tuesday and ran into a few Boston sports stars. 3 point specialist and member of the NBA championship winning 2008 Boston Celtics team Eddie House, former Patriots cornerback Ty Law, Super Bowl MVP and 3 time Super Champ Julian Edelman and former Bengals and Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson were all in attendance and placed bets. Julian bet $11,000 (his signature number) that the Celtics would win the NBA championship this season. (see video below) Ty Law bet $1,000 for the Celtics to win it all as well.

As far as betting now being legal in Massachusetts, you can now place bets on anything from the upcoming Super Bowl to the Academy Awards. As of today, you can only place bets in person. Mobile sports betting won’t be legalized until at least March of this year. According to former Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon: “Boston sports fans are very smart and educated when it comes picking their team. They know if they have a chance. These Boston fans are going to do very well. I hope people make a lot of money hope people don’t lose the farm.”
