The 2023 BET Awards are finally here! Culture’s Biggest Night starts at 8 pm. EST. The BET Awards will be honoring artists throughout hip-hop, R&B, and pop genres. International acts, as well as groups, collaborations, and film and television stars will also be honored.
As for nominations, Drake and GloRilla are in the lead with the most nominations clocking in at seven and six nods, respectively.
Both Drizzy and Glo’s nominations come from solo and collaborative efforts. The Toronto rapper is nominated for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Best Group with 21 Savage, and Album of the Year for Her Loss with 21 Savage. He is also nominated for the Viewer’s Choice Award for “Jimmy Cooks” with 21 and for his assist on Future’s “Wait For U,” with Tems, with the latter also being nominated for Best Collaboration.
Glo is nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Best New Artist, Album of the Year for her debut LP Anyways, Life’s Great, Video of the Year for “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B, and two nominations for Best Collaboration (“F.N.F. Let’s Go” and “Tomorrow 2”).
21 Savage and Lizzo earned five nominations each, while Beyoncé, SZA, Ice Spice, Chris Brown and Burna Boy each scored four nominations.
As for special honors, Busta Rhymes will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Patti Labelle will also be doing a special tribute to the late Tina Turner.
There will also be special performances by CoCo Jones, Doechii, Lil Uzi Vert, Spice, GloRilla, and more. In addition, BET will be celebrating 50 years of hip-hop with performances by legends 69 Boyz, Big Daddy Kane, Chief Keef, DJ Unk, E-40, Fast Life Yungstaz & Easton (F.L.Y.), Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Kid ‘N Play, MC Lyte, Percy “Master P” Miller, Remy Ma, Soulja Boy, The Sugarhill Gang, Trick Daddy, Trina, Tyga, Uncle Luke, Warren G, Ying Yang Twins, and Yo-Yo.
