A Massachusetts Town Bans Drag Show, Here’s Where Else You Can See One

Officials in North Brookfield, MA have taken back authorization for a local group to hold a Pride event. Why? Because it included a drag show.
Back in March the North Brookfield select board approved the request by the Rural Justice Network. It was to hold a "Small Town Pride Day" on the town common in June. Fast forward to April 11th where the board voted 2-1 to pull that permission. They ruled that a drag show violated the town's restrictions on "adult entertainment." They said that the event could go on without the drag show.
The American Civil Liberties Union has asked the board to restore full permission for the event in order to "avoid potential litigation."
At this point, the future of the event including a drag show is up in the air. Officials held another vote, and then said that their permission is not actually required. One member voted to approve the event and two abstained. The board Chair Jason Petraitis, who abstained said, "It's a public common, and we can't deny them access. But we disagreed with them having the drag show, so the motion failed. "But that does not mean they can't still have the event on their own."
Well, all that said, drag shows and events are alive and well, and thriving in other areas of Massachusetts. Drag brunches have become really popular. There are drag story times. And also gaining popularity are drag bingo nights. If you want to join in the fun, here are some places to check out in and around Boston for some drag fun. Enjoy!
