If you've ever thought Boston workers were hard working, you're wrong. Well, sort of. Wallet Hub has compiled a list of the hardest-working cities in America and Boston does not even land in the top 20. Although it could be much worse. There is a New England city that actually lands dead last on the list. We'll get to that in a minute. Now, Wallet Hub analyzed 11 different metrics in 116 of the country's largest cities to determine its list. Some of those metrics include: employment rate to average weekly work hours to the share of workers with multiple jobs. According to Wallet Hub: "Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the “hardest-working.” Data for metrics marked with an asterisk (*) were available only at the state level. We then determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample." You can read the entire survey by going to the WALLET HUB website.
Below we will list the hardest working cities, least hardest working cities and where Boston lands on the list.
