Binge watching as we know it may be a thing of the past. Word is, Netflix is thinking about moving away from the binge-watching model and releasing episodes of a series weekly, like in the “good old days.” Netflix is facing so much more competition, with all the other streaming services ramping up their original content. And they think the weekly format will keep viewers engaged over longer periods of time. It allows fans to discuss, theorize, predict, and of course PICK APART the show along the way. It allows word-of-mouth to grow so that a show can gain in popularity as it progresses. But is this rumor actually true. It was being reported all weekend long however it looks like it may not be.

The rumor came from a newsletter called “What I’m Hearing” from former Hollywood Reporter editor Matt Belloni, who’s now with Puck News. Since it was released, he clarified that everyone read into the newsletter a message that wasn’t really there. The quote that had people talking was: “Hastings has seemed unwilling to pivot off the binge model because he hasn’t needed or wanted to. Now, it appears, he does.” However, on a podcast, Belloni actually clarified his words saying “That was a ‘should’ happen, not an ‘is’ happening.”

So it may not be happening now, but what do you think? Would this be something you’d want or are you more of a binge watcher? Sound off on The Getup Crew Facebook page as we’re curious what you think. In the meantime, enjoy the rankings of the most binge watched series on Netflix so far in 2022. We hope you enjoy these series as much as we have, so far. And don’t forget, Season 5 of Cobra Kai was just released this past Friday. Have a wonderful day!
