The spookiest scariest haunted houses are right here in Massachusetts. This weekend especially is a perfect time to visit one (or two) of them. Many of us love to be scared around this time of year as Halloween is only a few weeks away. We have compiled a list of some of the spookiest and scariest haunted houses in Massachusetts.
Before we give you the list, let's look at what attracts us to these haunted houses in the first place. Science journalist Jeff Wise write a book called "Extreme Fear: The Science of Your Mind in Danger" and in it, he talks about fear giving us a "high arousal response." And according to Margee Kerr, a sociologist who specializes in fear, "When we’re in a safe place, we can interpret that threat response as we do any high arousal response like joy or happiness. The response is triggered by anything unpredictable or startling. But when we're in a safe place and we know it, it takes less than a second for us to remember we're not actually in danger. Then we switch over to enjoying it. It's a kind of euphoria. That's why you see people go right from screaming to laughing."
Now that we know why we love being scared, let's take a look at some of the spookiest scariest haunted houses in Massachusetts. After seeing this list, you're going to want to grab your family, your partner, your bff and take a visit this weekend. Oh, and don't be afraid to dress up and get in costume for the events.
